Sustainability

Sustainability and Net Zero are at the forefront of our strategic plan.

In 2018 we implemented a cloud based real time monitoring system, enabling us to ensure maximum usage of equipment. In actual fact this lead to the retirement of several old and inefficient machines, without losing capacity by investing in more energy efficient versions. With match funding from the Made Smarter programme  the monitoring system was recently upgraded to include real time energy monitoring. This addition assists us to highlight areas for investment to reduce energy usage and waste production on an ongoing basis.

In 2023 Andel invested in a Solar Panel installation on as large a portion of the factory as possible to reduce consumption from the National Grid.

More recently we have commenced a study and programme with WMG to identify and establish a Net Zero Strategy for the business.

Sustainability in the usage of Plastics is a widely discussed topic, particularly single use plastics. We are members of the British Plastic Federation and of course their ability to evidence the immense contribution that Plastics provide is going to be more thorough than we can supply here, please visit the link https://www.bpf.co.uk/Sustainability/Plastics_and_Sustainability.aspx

As part of the Three Pillars of Sustainability and plastic usage as a whole, we start at the Design for Manufacture process, modifying component designs and tooling to reduce waste wherever possible. Material selection is often based around whether a recycled version or some content is feasible within the component without compromising it’s function.

Andel has also been at the forefront of metal replacement for a couple of decades, as plastic has many benefits over a metal component in terms of a life cycle analysis.

We are members of many Plastic and Industry associations with a view to keeping up to date with all developments in the areas of waste reduction, energy efficiency and sustainability.
